and welcome to the DHBC Tumblog!

We decided to use Tumblr to present our project to all of you as it plays nicely with all different types of media. If any of you would like a better understanding of what Tumblr can do, there is a how-to on the the class blog. 

This space is designed as a meeting place for all the DHBC’s social media channels. With the ability to import Twitter and Facebook feeds, as well as export content produced on here to those sites, Tumblr is great to bring everything together. 

We also hope that local businesses and community members will interact with the Tumblog. Through posting pictures, videos and short text bursts about the DHBC’s events we aim to create a Tumblr community centered around the DHBC’s activities and principals. 

Through reblogging posts of our members, such as photographs of retail outlets we also hope to be able to shine a spotlight on the great things local businesses are up to.

Finally, through posting and reblogging conversations centered around urban development and related stories we aim to spread the DHBC brand beyond the penisula, spreading our thoughts on key issues across the web.

A form of social media, LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network, a social network geared to businesses and professionals. The strength of this network is the ability to connect with trusted contacts and exchange information, ideas and knowledge. Initially, LinkedIn was viewed as the social media job search area for professionals.  Although that is still true its application has grown to include those who are seeking to build their professional network, businesses trying to reach out to clients and organizations trying to communicate with potential partners, customers and competitors.

Like other social media applications, LinkedIn provides an opportunity to build a community.  LinkedIn’s greatest benefit for businesses includes the ability for organizations to maintain visibility and compile feedback. 

For the DHBC, communication through LinkedIn will encourage growth in contacts; promote events and meetings all around Halifax. LinkedIn will be beneficial to DHBC in its efforts to expand its communication reach with professionals in HRM and allow for an analysis of DHBC connections.
